 | One hundrent years ago King Minos and Knossos were justnames in the myths and legends of the ancient Greeks.
Then in 1900 AD Arthur Evans began to dig on a hill called \"Kefala\" just behind Heraklio and discovered the lost civilization of the Minoas.
The Palace of Knossos stands today a tribute to the vision of this pioneering archaeologist ready to amaze the visitor. |
| Phaistos-Mires-Gortys-Matala |
 | We visit the famous Minoan Palace at Phaistos. It stands on a hill at the edge of the Messara plain, which the dominates.
Phaistos was one of the oldest and most important Cretan cities and is second to Knossos in archaeological terms. The dynasty of Rodamanthys is said to have ruled there.
At Mires the capital of the fertile Messara plain, you are free to stroll through the market at your own place. |
| Imbros Gorge |
 | Imbros is every bit as spectacular as Samaria gorge, but on a smaller scale.Here also you can walk on one of the ancient pathways of Crete, unchanged for centuries.The path meanders along the dry streamed under the oaks, cypresses and wild olive trees, between the aromatic shrubs. |

 | If you dont fancy the full walk but you still like to experience some of the magic of the Samaria Gorge, then go to the Easy Way. A bus riding along the dramatic south coast takes us to Chora Sfakion from where the ferryboat will carry us to Agia Roumeli at the foot of the Gorge. |
